Panorama Abu Simbel crop

The Great Temple of Ramesses II is on the left and the Small Temple of Nefertari is on the right.

Abu Simbel is home to two temples founded in 1264 BCE, the New Kingdom of Egypt, during the reign of Ramesses II. The temple complex is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The temples were relocated from their original mountainside home, to 230 km south of Aswan to avoid water damage from the artificial Lake Nasser.
