Abu Simbel is home to two temples founded in 1264 BCE, the New Kingdom of Egypt, during the reign of Ramesses II. The temple complex is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The temples were relocated from their original mountainside home, to 230 km south of Aswan to avoid water damage from the artificial Lake Nasser.
