Boats

Their were three boat-shaped pits found at the base of the pyramid. However in the May of 1954, a fourth pit was discovered. Unlike the first three, this pit was still sealed with large stone slabs that weighed up to fifteen tons. Inside the pit, they discovered 1,224 pieces of wood, all in varying lengths. Egyptologists entrusted all of the wood to the native boat builder, Haj Ahmed Yusuf. Yusuf slowly fit each piece together, and over the course of 14 years, rebuilt the boat.

The completed boat is now being held in a climate-controlled museum next to the Great Pyramid. During the construction of the museum, a second sealed boat pit was discovered. This pit however, was left sealed and untouched in hopes that future excavation techniques would be able to gather more information.
